June 1, 1846: The first press dispatch by telegraph arrives in Rochester at the New York, Albany, and Buffalo Company office, reporting on the constitutional convention in Albany. In 1860, this company was mergered with the Western Union company, then headquartered in Rochester.

April 27

April 27, 1933: The Genesee Brewing Comany, recently re-established from the former Genesee Brewery and parts of neighboring Bartholomay brewery, begins beer shipments following the end of Prohibition.  Genesee's Liebotschaner Beer is announced as the best "Post-Repeal Brew".  A victory party is held at the Power's Hotel with over 4000 in attendance.

April 16, 1958: The Haloid Company changes its name to Haloid Xerox. Originally formed as a photographic paper company in Rochester in 1906, the Haloid company would acquire license to Chester Carlson's patented electrophotography process in 1947 and launch the first XeroX copier in 1949.

January 1, 1916: Charlotte is officially annexed by the city of Rochester in a bid to gain control over the port and to increase the population (and thereby political standing and funding) of the city.

January 1, 1881: George Eastman joins with Henry A. Strong, a buggy whip manufacturer, to form the Eastman Dry Plate Company.  By 1884, the company would be renamed the Eastman Dry Plate and Film Company and finally in 1892, the company would be organized into the Eastman Kodak Company and Strong would serve as the first president.

December 27, 1887: The blasting powder mill owned by Rand & Co. in Pittsford (near the present day Powder Mill Park) exploded. The blast was felt and heard as far away as Canandaigua and Avon. No workers were injured.

November 20, 1811: The first lot in the 100 acre tract on the west side of the Genesee River is sold for $50 by Col. Rochester to Enos Stone, who had already constructed a log cabin there.

November 20, 1886: Rochester customers of the the Bell Telephone company initiate a telephone strike in response to the increase in rates to $50 for 500 messages and 6 cents per additional message. Most of the over 1000 subscribers hung up their receivers and the city council revoked the company's license to use of city streets for wire poles. The strike continued for over a year, without service, before a settlement was reached. 
     Dissatisfaction with the Bell company remained and eventually lead to the found of independent Rochester Telephone in 1899, which in the 1990's would become Frontier Corporation.

October 16, 1909: As part of Rochester's second Industrial Exposition, local motarists hold an Automobile Gymkhana at Genesee Valley Park with races and various acrobatics.

October 13

October 13, 1908: Rochester hosts its first Industrial Exposition, attracting 150,000 visitors. The week-long event was launched with a parade of marchers and 200 floats. The expo's slogan was "Rochester Means Quality".
